Hocking Hills: cabins, gorges and quiet inns
The Hocking Hills region in southeastern Ohio is well known for cabin stays among wooded gorges. The Hocking Hills tourism association lists Old Man’s Cave, part of Hocking Hills State Park, at 19852 St. Rt. 664 S, Logan, OH 43138, (740) 385-6842. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) park page could not be loaded when we checked on 15 and 16 October 2026, so we have not stated trail hours or any fees here. Check ohiodnr.gov before you go, especially in winter or after heavy rain.
1. Glenlaurel, A Scottish Inn & Cottages (Rockbridge)
Glenlaurel describes itself as an adults-only retreat in the Hocking Hills with rooms, suites and private cabins, plus on-site fine dining. That makes it a clear couples-first option, with no family crowd to plan around.

2. The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls (Logan)
The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls says it is surrounded on three sides by Hocking Hills State Park. Lodging includes 1840s cabins, cottages, geodomes, yurts and lodges, and the property has a spa and the Kindred Spirits restaurant. Its website also lists specials and add-on pampering packages.

3. Hocking Hills State Park Lodge (Logan)
If you want to stay right in the park area, the Hocking Hills State Park Lodge on State Route 664 offers lodge rooms and cabins. It is a simpler, park-style choice than the boutique inns above.

4. Landoll’s Mohican Castle (Loudonville)
Landoll’s Mohican Castle bills itself as Ohio’s premier castle hotel, set in Mohican country near Loudonville. It offers suites, cottages and villas, dining at the Copper Mug Grille, and public events.

5. Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa (Canton)
Gervasi is a Tuscan-styled winery resort in Canton. Its website lists stays in The Villas, The Casa and The Farmhouse; several dining venues (including The Bistro and The Crush House); an on-site winery and distillery; and a spa offering massage, skincare and spa packages. Its events calendar lists tastings and pairings, tours and live music.

6. The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake
The Lodge sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie near Geneva State Park, in what it calls the heart of Ohio Wine Country. Its website lists a wine shuttle to local wineries, spa options, the Horizons Restaurant and lounge, plus bike rentals and a zip line for active couples.

7. The Lakehouse Inn (Geneva-on-the-Lake)
A bed & breakfast on the southern shore of Lake Erie, The Lakehouse Inn offers lakeview rooms, suites and cottages, the Crosswinds Grille restaurant, a spa, and packages and specials. It calls itself an Ohio wine country destination, so it pairs well with a winery day.

8. Belamere Suites (Perrysburg)
Belamere Suites is built for couples. Its FAQ says guests must be at least 21. Its Grand Royal, Royal and Presidential pool suites have a private indoor heated pool. The pool-suite listing also includes a two-person dry heat sauna, a two-person whirlpool tub, a fireplace and an attached single-car garage. A light breakfast is delivered to the suite. The FAQ lists a seven-day cancellation policy, so read it before you book.

9. The Lafayette Hotel (Marietta)
The Lafayette stands where the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers meet. It is a riverboat-era hotel built in 1918 and a member of Historic Hotels of America. It has three places to eat and drink (the Gun Room for breakfast, the Riverfront Bar & Grill and Café Lafayette), complimentary guest parking, and riverview rooms.

10. The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland
For a city weekend, The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland is downtown, with rooms and suites that look out over Lake Erie or the skyline, plus a Club Lounge. The hotel lists Cleveland Hopkins International Airport as 12.0 miles away.

11. Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island)
Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island) has a harbor, wineries, caves and Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. Miller Ferry runs from Catawba Island. Its 2026 brochure lists these passenger fares each way:

The brochure says the crossing takes under 20 minutes. It also says passenger reservations are not required and there are five free parking areas near the Catawba dock (5174 E Water Street, Port Clinton, OH 43452). The 2026 schedule runs fall trips through 25 November. Check millerferry.com for the day’s timetable.
Perry’s Victory Memorial in 2026: the National Park Service says the observation deck, plazas and rotunda are not accessible for the 2026 and 2027 seasons because of the Upper Plaza Rehabilitation, with construction scheduled to continue through 2028. Entrance fees are currently waived because of the construction. The visitor center is seasonal: the NPS hours page lists 2026 opening days only through 26 October (10 am to 5 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 29 September), and on 27 October 2026 it listed no later dates. Check the NPS hours page or call 419-285-2184 before you go.
12. Kelleys Island
Kelleys Island is reached by its own ferry. The Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line sails from Marblehead and lists a round-trip ticket from $26 per adult and parking from $20 per day on its website (checked 16 October 2026). Sailings are weather permitting, and the ferry posts updates on its website and Facebook page.

National park and lakeside lodge
13. Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
The National Park Service says no entrance pass is required for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. For a slow, scenic date, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) runs train excursions through the park in every season. In mid-October 2026 (checked 15 and 16 October) its online schedule listed Fall Scenic departures priced $26–$39; rides and prices change through the year, so check the live calendar. 14. Maumee Bay State Park Lodge (Oregon, near Toledo)
On the shore of Lake Erie, Maumee Bay Lodge offers rooms and cabins, an indoor pool, outdoor hot tubs, an 18-hole golf course set among wetlands, and trails and birding. It is a relaxed state park lodge rather than a luxury resort.

How to choose
- Adults-only peace: Glenlaurel (adults-only) or Belamere Suites (21+).
- Hiking and cabins: the Hocking Hills trio (Glenlaurel, Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Hocking Hills State Park Lodge).
- Wine and spa: Gervasi in Canton, or the two Geneva-on-the-Lake stays for Lake Erie wine country.
- Something different: a castle suite at Landoll’s or a riverboat-era room at The Lafayette.
- Islands: Put-in-Bay (Miller Ferry from Catawba) or Kelleys Island (ferry from Marblehead). Ferry schedules have fewer trips outside summer, so check the timetable first.
- Low-cost day out: Cuyahoga Valley National Park (no entrance fee) plus a scenic train ride.
Planning tips
- Book weekends early in peak seasons, and always read the property’s cancellation policy (Belamere, for example, lists a seven-day policy).
- Island trips depend on weather and ferry schedules. Check the ferry website on the day.
- Some popular sights change year to year. For example, the Perry’s Victory observation deck is closed for 2026 and 2027.
