The Jim Corbett to Kainchi Dham distance is about 79 km by road from Ramnagar town, where the Corbett Tiger Reserve office is. We measured it with two OpenStreetMap (OSM) route planners. The shortest route runs from Ramnagar to Kaladhungi, climbs to Nainital, then goes through Bhowali to the Neem Karoli Baba ashram at Kainchi Dham. The planners estimate 1 hour 55 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes of driving with no stops, so plan on about 3 hours.
Last checked: 8 October 2026. This guide uses government pages and OSM routing. It is not based on a visit. Road conditions and fares change, so check them before you set off.
Jim Corbett to Kainchi Dham distance at a glance
Websites quote anything from about 85 km to 129 km or 160 km for this trip. We could not get 129 km or 160 km on any route we measured, so the table names each start point. Times are route-planner estimates for an empty road.
| Start point | Route | Distance (OSM-measured) | Estimated drive time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ramnagar town centre | Kaladhungi, Nainital, Bhowali | About 79 km | 1 h 55 min to 2 h 55 min |
| Ramnagar town centre | Kaladhungi, Haldwani, Bhimtal, Bhowali | About 96 to 100 km | 2 h to 3 h 50 min |
| Ramnagar town centre | Betalghat, Khairna | About 98 to 99 km | 2 h 30 min to 4 h 20 min |
| Garjiya Devi temple area, north of Ramnagar | Kaladhungi, Nainital, Bhowali | About 86 to 93 km | 2 h 10 min to 3 h 20 min |
Method: the start is the OSM point for Ramnagar town and the end is the mapped Kainchi ashram. Routes were measured with the OSRM and Valhalla planners on 8 October 2026; where they disagree, the table shows a range.
The reserve’s admin office is at the Forest compound, Ranikhet Road, Ramnagar, so starting there gives almost the same figure. From a resort further up the Ranikhet road, add the drive back into Ramnagar. For safari permits and zone fees, see our Jim Corbett safari ticket price guide.

Where Kainchi Dham is
The Nainital district website and the Kumaon Mandal website both place Kaichi (Kainchi) Dham on the Nainital–Almora road, 9 km from Bhowali. They describe it as a modern pilgrim centre known for the ashram of Neem Karoli Maharaj, so the Jim Corbett to Neem Karoli Baba distance is the same 79 km.
Route via Kaladhungi, Nainital and Bhowali
This is the shortest route and the first choice of both planners. The legs, measured on OSM:
| Leg | Road (OSM road names) | Distance (OSM) | Estimated time (OSRM) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ramnagar to Kaladhungi | SH 40 | About 29 to 30 km | About 30 min |
| Kaladhungi to Bhowali junction | Kaladhungi–Nainital road (SH 41), then the Nainital–Bhowali road | About 42 km | About 1 h 15 min |
| Bhowali junction to Kainchi Dham | Nainital–Almora road (NH 109) | About 8 km | About 13 min |
Valhalla gives about 2 h 40 min from Ramnagar to Bhowali on the same roads, so treat the OSRM times as a best case. The district page gives 9 km from Bhowali but does not say where in Bhowali it measures from.
The Corbett Tiger Reserve website says its Jim Corbett Museum, in Corbett’s heritage bungalow at Kaladhungi, is 30 km from Ramnagar town. It is open 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and closes only on Holi.

For distances from Nainital town or other cities, see our Nainital to Kainchi Dham distance guide.
Other routes
Via Haldwani and Bhimtal
From Kaladhungi you can stay on the plains to Haldwani, then climb through Bhimtal to Bhowali. This avoids Nainital town but adds about 17 to 21 km (96 to 100 km in total). It helps when the Kaladhungi–Nainital road is closed.
Via Betalghat and Khairna
A third road runs from Ramnagar past Garjiya and Betalghat to Khairna, reaching Kainchi from the Almora side. It is about 98 to 99 km and the slowest in both planners. Uttarakhand PWD’s road-status report for 26 September 2026 listed the Garjiya–Betalghat–Khairna state highway as closed that morning, so ask locally before you use it.
Kainchi Dham to Jim Corbett distance by road
The return uses the same roads. From the ashram to Ramnagar town, OSRM gives about 79 km (1 h 55 min) and Valhalla about 82 km (3 hours).
Jim Corbett to Kainchi Dham taxi fare
We found no official fixed fare for this route. Uttarakhand’s State Transport Authority (STA) sets the maximum a taxi may charge per km. Its notice of 15 July 2022 is still the latest listed on the Transport Department website. Cab classes go by vehicle value.
| Cab class (STA notice, 15 July 2022) | Plains, non-AC / AC | Hill roads, non-AC / AC |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary (up to ₹8 lakh) | ₹16 / ₹18 per km | ₹18 / ₹20 per km |
| Deluxe (₹8 lakh to ₹15 lakh) | ₹20 / ₹22 per km | ₹22 / ₹25 per km |
| Luxury (₹15 lakh to ₹25 lakh) | ₹25 per km | ₹27 per km |
The same notice says trips under 80 km are charged as 80 km, and there is no waiting charge for the first 8 hours. As an example of our own arithmetic, 80 km at the ordinary AC hill rate of ₹20 comes to ₹1,600. That is a legal maximum, not a quote, and the notice does not say how the empty return of a one-way drop is charged. Dainik Jagran reported on 20 February 2026 that a fare rise was under discussion. Agree the total, one-way or return, before you start.
Kainchi Dham to Jim Corbett bus
The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) route list has no direct Ramnagar–Kainchi Dham bus. It does list Bhowali–Dehradun and Nainital–Dehradun routes via Ramnagar, and a Nainital–Kainchi route via Bhowali. So by bus you go from Ramnagar to Bhowali or Nainital, then take a local bus or taxi to Kainchi. The list shows no times or frequency, so check the timetable at utconline.uk.gov.in before you travel.
Fares are per km. The STA notice sets an ordinary bus base rate of 128 paise per km on the plains and 183 paise on hill roads, and a transport corporation may add up to 20 percent. Stage-by-stage ticket prices were not published on the pages we checked.
Monsoon landslides and road closures
Heavy rain can close this route. On 1 September 2026 India Today reported that landslides had blocked both main roads linking Nainital with Haldwani and Kaladhungi. Uttarakhand PWD publishes road-closure reports through the monsoon. From June to September, check road status and the weather on the morning you travel, and consider waiting if heavy rain is forecast.
Also plan around 15 June, Kainchi Dham’s foundation day fair. In 2026 police made Bhowali to Kainchi a zero zone on 14 and 15 June, open only to emergency vehicles and authorised shuttles, and sent tourist cars from Kaladhungi via Haldwani (Hindustan, 14 June 2026). Check the traffic plan if you travel near that date.
