Vehicles are kept out from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM, and all day on Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays and public holidays. The Horticulture Department’s own Cubbon Park page does not publish opening hours or closed days. Karnataka Tourism’s table lists the park as closed on Mondays and second Tuesdays, but most of the park is open lawn crossed by public roads, so this is unclear. If you plan to visit on a Monday, call the Deputy Director of Horticulture, Cubbon Park, on 080-22864125.

In January 2025 a three-month trial let traffic through on second and fourth Saturdays from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (The Hindu). We found no report on whether it was extended.

Cubbon Park entry fee and tickets

There is no ticket for the park itself. Karnataka Tourism lists the entry fee as free, and the Horticulture Department calls it “purely a public park”. There is also no camera fee for personal photos. The paid attractions are listed below.

Cubbon Park rules (2025 government order)

The Hindu reported these rules on 6 May 2025. The Horticulture Department said breaking them can lead to a ₹500 fine, with legal action for repeat offenders.

  • Personal photos on phones and cameras are allowed.
  • Pre- and post-wedding shoots, baby shoots, modelling shoots, reels and other commercial videos are not allowed. Nature or wildlife photographers can ask the Horticulture Department for permission.
  • Eating inside the park is not allowed.
  • Groups of more than 20 need permission from the Deputy Director of Cubbon Park.
  • Cycling and skating are allowed, but classes and training sessions are not.
  • Balloons, kites and frisbees are not allowed.

Karnataka Tourism says pets must be leashed on weekdays and are not allowed at weekends. We did not find this rule in the government order as reported, so check the signs at the gate.

Attractions inside and next to the park

Namma Bengaluru Aquarium

The aquarium is on Kasturba Road, inside Cubbon Park. Its website gives these hours: Monday to Friday 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and government holidays 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It reopened after a makeover in July 2024. Karnataka Tourism still lists older hours (10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, closed Mondays and second Tuesdays), so go by the aquarium’s own site. Phone: +91 63643 54836. The website does not list ticket prices.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

VITM is a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (Ministry of Culture) on Kasturba Road. It is open 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and the ticket counter closes at 5:30 PM. It opens every day of the year except Ganesha Chaturthi and Deepavali. The museum says tickets can be booked online only on vismuseum.gov.in. Entry is free for army, navy, air force and police personnel in uniform, for people with disabilities, and for children under 5.

Government Museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery

The Government Museum on Kasturba Road was closed for renovation in 2026. On 19 August 2026, Karnataka’s Tourism Minister told officials to finish the work within six months so it could reopen (The Hindu). No reopening date had been announced when we checked. The minister also visited the Venkatappa Art Gallery next door. Its current hours were not published on an official page we could open.

Heritage and landmarks

The Horticulture Department lists the Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka High Court (Attara Kacheri), Visvesvaraya Museum, Venkatappa Art Gallery, Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Indira Gandhi Children’s Library and the Band Stand among the sights in and around the park. The Sir Mark Cubbon statue faces the steps up to the terrace garden.

Cubbon Park history in brief

According to the Horticulture Department, Cubbon Park was laid out in 1870 on 100 acres. Major General Richard Hieram Sankey designed it. It grew to about 260 acres by the 1950s and now covers 197 acres 31.50 guntas. It started as Meade’s Park, was named Cubbon Park in 1873, and was renamed Sri Chamarajendra Park on 26 July 1948. Silver oak was first introduced here in 1870.

How to reach Cubbon Park

Cubbon Park Metro Station on the Purple Line is about 450 m from the Kasturba Road entrance, and Vidhana Soudha station serves the north side (Karnataka Tourism). Paid parking is available near Kasturba Road and Bal Bhavan. Karnataka Tourism does not list parking rates, and we found no official parking tariff. Remember that cars cannot use the park roads on Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays and public holidays.

Best time to visit

Go in the morning walking window (5:30 AM to 9:00 AM) for quiet, car-free roads and birdwatching. Sundays are car-free all day, which suits cyclists and families. Karnataka Tourism suggests October to February for cooler weather. If you are in Bengaluru for longer, see our guide to places to visit near Bangalore for 2 days, or Fun World Bangalore for rides. For a day trip, GRS Fantasy Park in Mysore is another family option.
