Matira Beach

Matira Beach is stunningly gorgeous. This paradisiacal stretch of powdered white sand meets extremely stunning waters with ever-changing turquoise blue patterns, earning it the title of the world’s most beautiful beach.

It has a distinct natural beauty and is situated in the world’s most beautiful lagoon. It’s at the base of the enigmatic Mt. Otemanu. Swinging coconuts, shade-giving palm trees, and distant, alluring motus (atolls) surround the beach.

People who live here speak of the beach’s captivating vitality, stating that there is no other place like it on Earth, and we agree because it is one of the most picturesque sites we’ve ever seen!

Getting to Matira Beach.

Matira Beach is a public beach on the southern coast of Bora Bora, a small island northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia. It’s one of the rare public beaches in Bora Bora, while the majority of the beaches are on resorts.

Matira Beach stretches from Hotel Matira in the north to Matira Point

The beach is adjacent to the island’s biggest city, Vaitape, and is accessible by bicycle or cab. You can also drive if you have leased a vehicle in Bora Bora. Whatever method you choose, it’s a quick ride from the city center; it only took us 10 minutes to arrive.

There is a wide road near the coast that connects the entire island. Whether you’re coming from the east or west, simply head south and find a parking spot at the beach.

Facilities at Matira Beach

If you decide to drive to Matira Beach, you can locate parking near the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort. We arrived early on a weekday morning and found it to be relatively uncrowded.

Aside from outdoor public showers, there are few facilities. Matira is a peaceful and uncommercialized beach; thus, no towels, lounge chairs, or umbrellas are available for hire. However, you can find shade under the abundant palm trees. Simply bring any goods you might need for the water.

Having said that, there are plenty of activities and places to stay nearby. For starters, there are several stunning resorts, including the Intercontinental Le Moana Bora Bora Resort, which features overwater bungalows. Hotel Matira is also pretty right about it.

When you become hungry, there are several tiny eateries directly on the beach that serve simple meals such as sandwiches, wraps, and smoothies. Bloody Mary’s, one of the island’s most popular bars, is only a short walk from Matira Beach.

Otherwise, head to Le Matira Roulette for fresh Mahi Mahi or Fare Manuia for wood-fired pizza. If you’re looking for something more upscale, visit the Matira Beach restaurant, which serves a variety of Tahitian dishes.

Things to do at Matira Beach

If lying on the beach all day isn’t your idea of fun, consider watersports such as jet skiing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and paddleboarding. Bora Bora Water Sport and Kite Surf School Polynesie, both located further south, offer gear rentals and classes.

Both firms provide comparable services, with the exception of Kite Surf School’s kiteboarding and wing foil boarding instruction.

You can also snorkel at Matira Beach, though the shallow waters may limit your chances of seeing much sea life. Although snorkeling is not good at this location, the shallow waters make it an excellent family beach. For parents or any traveler, placing a towel and lying on the silky white sand is incredibly calming.

If you only want to go for a swim, you’ll be pleased to know that the seas are warm, similar to the temperature on the island.

If it doesn’t put you off, we recommend traveling to the southernmost point on the east side of the beach. Swim to the northern part of the barrier reef. You’ll see a lot of gorgeous coral and exotic fish.

Unsurprisingly, Matira Beach hosts the majority of Bora Bora’s events. The fire-dancing spectacular was part of a marriage ceremony. It was quite a site to see, and I recommend checking to see if there are any activities going on at Matira during your vacation here.

There are also outrigger canoe races and other events, including the well-known Hawaiki Nui Va’a race.

As if the stunning beach wasn’t enough to entice you, the mix of delicious neighboring eateries and exhilarating water sports makes Matira Beach a must-see on any Bora Bora trip. If you arrive at the appropriate moment, the sunsets at Matira Beach provide a breathtaking spectacle that you will not find anywhere else in the world.
