Rani Baug (Byculla Zoo) Mumbai: Ticket Price, Timings and Online Booking

Rani Baug, officially Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo (also called Byculla Zoo or Jijamata Udyan), is Mumbai’s municipal zoo and botanical garden at Byculla. On the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) information sheet for this zoo, the listed Indian adult entry fee is ₹50 and the foreign adult fee is ₹400. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Civic Recreation page says the park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on all working days except Wednesday. BMC also runs an official online ticket site at themumbaizoo-ticket.mcgm.gov.in.

This guide uses the BMC online ticket portal, BMC Civic Recreation / zoo pages, and the CZA zoo information sheet (and annual report) for Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan & Zoo. It is not based on a visit. The live BMC ticket portal homepage we opened did not print a full public tariff table in the HTML, so treat the CZA sheet figures as the published official reference we could extract and confirm the amount shown at checkout or at the ticket counter before you pay. A 2026 civic news report also said a fee hike had been proposed but not finalised.

Important: some 2026 civic reporting still describes the current Indian child fee as ₹25 (with adult ₹50), and it says a proposed rise to ₹100 adult / ₹50 child was not yet approved. We could not pull a live numeric price list from the BMC ticket portal HTML on the check day, so if the portal or counter shows a different child rate, use that figure. Do not rely on third-party blogs for camera, family-pack or school rates unless you see them on the BMC booking flow.

Timings and weekly closing day

BMC’s English Civic Recreation text and the Marathi recreation page both say the udyan/zoo is open every day except Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The CZA sheet lists visitor timings as 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the same Wednesday closure. Prefer the BMC 9:00 a.m. opening for planning, and allow for a later gate opening if the counter follows the CZA 9:30 time. Nursery sapling sale hours on the BMC page are separate (8:00–11:00 a.m. and 3:00–5:00 p.m., closed Wednesday, Sunday and public holidays) and are not the zoo entry hours.

Online booking

BMC launched online ticketing for Byculla Zoo on 19 November 2022. The official booking site is https://themumbaizoo-ticket.mcgm.gov.in/. The site’s terms say it is owned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, that packages and information on the site are an “invitation to offer”, and that BMC may correct pricing errors. Guest checkout is allowed. The homepage we retrieved confirms the official name, the Byculla location, a plastic-free-zone notice, and that tickets are sold online. It did not expose a complete public price grid in the static HTML we saved, so complete the booking steps on that site to see the rate charged for your visit date.

There is no separate third-party “must use” app required by BMC for basic entry. Ignore blogs that invent express passes or NFT wristbands for this municipal zoo.

Address, contact and how to reach

Byculla is on Mumbai’s Central line. From Byculla station it is a short walk or auto ride to the gate on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road. We did not verify parking fees on an official page on the check day.

What is inside (official mentions only)

The BMC ticket portal describes roughly 60 acres at Byculla with a large plant collection and many animal species. Animals named on that homepage include the Bengal tiger and Humboldt penguin (हम्बोल्ट पेंग्विन), among others. The BMC Zooplan page notes renovated larger exhibits such as an Asian elephant exhibit, a Himalayan black bear exhibit and a large bird aviary, plus older small enclosures and heritage structures. CZA lists the zoo as a recognised Medium Zoo under MCGM/BMC. The portal also states the grounds are a plastic-free zone: avoid single-use plastic, bring your own water bottle, and prefer cloth or paper bags.

The CZA sheet lists visitor facilities such as a ticket house with baggage counter, souvenir shop, public toilets, drinking water, rain shelters, an interpretation centre, a child-care centre and a cafe (Cafe Wild-Eatry). Camera or videography fees were not found on the BMC portal homepage or the CZA sheet extract we used; if the booking flow adds a camera line item, use that official total.
